Sri Lanka, Sept. 21 -- 171 disaster relief teams are on standby to provide relief to people affected by adverse weather conditions impacting the island due to a low-pressure area formed in the Andaman Sea region of the Bay of Bengal, northeast of Sri Lanka, the Sri Lanka Navy said.

The Navy stated that 14 of these disaster relief teams were deployed by the Southern and Western Naval Commands as of this morning (21) to be dispatched based on necessity.

Accordingly, the Southern Naval Command deployed five disaster relief teams, comprising two teams in Thawalama, one team in Hiniduma, one team in Mapalagama, and one team in Nagoda.
