Namal alleges massive coal shortage worth Rs. 4.62bn
Sri Lanka, Sept. 10 -- Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Member of Parliament Namal Rajapaksa alleged today in Parliament that 120,000 metric tonnes of coal worth 4.62 billion rupees have gone missing from 19 coal shipments brought into the country.
Addressing the House, the Parliamentarian stated that the missing quantity of coal is equivalent to the capacity of two entire ships.
Rajapaksa further claimed that substandard coal had been imported into the island and criticized the handling of the procurement process, asserting that large-scale irregularities occurred both prior to and following the arrival of the consignments.
