Muslim MPs rally support for Sri Lankan facing Saudi death sentence
Sri Lanka, Sept. 19 -- Former Minister Rishad Bathiudeen visited the home of Anojan Sivarasa in Narpattimunai, Kalmunai, yesterday (18) to meet his mother and family members and offer support. Anojan Sivarasa is a Sri Lankan national sentenced to five years in prison in Saudi Arabia over a social media post, which has since been escalated to a death sentence.
Highlighting that the Saudi death penalty reports have caused deep concern within the Muslim community, the former minister stated that he plans to unite Muslim parliamentarians to make a special appeal to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and the King of Saudi Arabia. He also mentioned that he hopes to secure the intervention of the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama (ACJU).
