Sri Lanka, Sept. 18 -- The mother of a Sri Lankan youth residing in Kalmunai, Ampara, has appealed to the government to release her son, who has been sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia.

The youth, identified as Sivarasa Anojan, was working in Saudi Arabia when he was initially sentenced to five years in prison over a post published on social media.

Member of Parliament Shanakiyan Rasamanickam revealed that following an appeal submitted regarding the initial ruling, Anojan was handed the death penalty yesterday (17).

Accordingly, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it is closely paying attention to the judicial proceedings of Sivarasa Anojan.
