Most Sri Lankan swimming pools deemed unsafe
Sri Lanka, Sept. 12 -- Most of the swimming pools in Sri Lanka are unsafe, according to Samitha Sirithunga, Specialist Consultant Medical Officer of the Injury Prevention Division of the Ministry of Health's Non-Communicable Diseases Unit.
He stated this while participating in an event held in Colombo yesterday (11) to launch the health guidelines prepared by the Ministry of Health for swimming pools.
The specialist medical officer stated that a swimming pool must have lifeguards.
It was also revealed at the event that although there are 10,467 schools in Sri Lanka, only 66 schools have swimming pools.
