Sri Lanka, July 10 -- Numerous details are emerging regarding the unrest that erupted at the Negombo prison and the inmates involved in the incident.

Inmates behaving violently issued death threats against the prison officer who fired shots to prevent prisoners from breaking through the main prison gate during the clash.

Prison sources report that the officer in question reported for duty on the day of the emergency while undergoing treatment for dengue.

The Department of Prisons took necessary measures to ensure the safety of the officer.

Meanwhile, a group of inmates at the prison where he is currently held assaulted 'Katuwellegama Suresh', identified as the main suspect who led the Negombo prison clash.
