Sri Lanka, July 13 -- The Ministry of Finance announced today that the Cabinet of Ministers decided to extend the monthly housing rent allowance by another three months for residents who are living in rented houses, as they lost homes due to landslides and floods caused by the Ditwah disaster.

Previously, under Budget Circular No. 08/2025 dated 05.12.2025, this monthly rent allowance went to disaster victims for a period of six months to reside in a temporary location until building a new house in a suitable location.

With the new Cabinet decision, the period has been extended by another three months, and accordingly, this monthly house rent allowance of 25,000 rupees will be issued for a maximum period of up to nine months.
