Sri Lanka, May 24 -- A minor flood situation could occur within the next 48 hours in several low-lying areas below Hanwella due to heavy rainfall of nearly 300 millimetres in the upper catchment areas of the Kelani River basin, warns the Department of Irrigation.

Low-lying areas in the Seethawaka, Dompe, Padukka, Homagama, Biyagama, Kaduwela, Kolonnawa, Kelaniya, Wattala, and Colombo Divisional Secretariat Divisions face potential flood risks because of the overflowing of the Kelani Ganga.

People living in low-lying areas and along both banks of the river in the aforementioned regions, as well as motorists driving through these areas, must remain highly vigilant and cautious, requests the Department of Irrigation.
