Sri Lanka, Oct. 28 -- A minor flood situation is likely in low-lying areas of the Kalu Ganga floodplain within the next 24 hours due to continuing heavy rainfall, the Irrigation Department has warned.

According to the warning, significant rainfall has been recorded in the catchment areas of the Kalu Ganga Basin, with rain continuing.

In Ratnapura District, the areas at risk include Pelmadulla, Nivithigala, Ratnapura, Kuruwita, Ayagama and Elapatha.

In Kalutara District, the affected areas include Ingiriya, Horana, Dodangoda, Millaniya, Bulathsinhala, Madurawala and Palindanuwara.

Residents in these areas and motorists travelling through them have been urged to remain vigilant and take appropriate precautions.
