Sri Lanka, March 18 -- A mandatory registration scheme for all digital businesses and courier services will be introduced to strengthen consumer protection. Trade Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe announced the initiative during a World Consumer Rights Day event.
The policy aims to guarantee the quality of items sold online and protect the public from inferior merchandise. Although the digital market offers more competitive pricing, the Minister pointed out an increasing volume of complaints concerning products that do not meet essential quality standards.
