Sri Lanka, Sept. 20 -- The Department of Irrigation has warned of a major flood risk in low-lying areas surrounding the Mahaweli River in the Pasbage Korale Divisional Secretariat Division, following heavy rainfall in the upper catchment areas over the past few hours.

The department has requested residents living in these areas and motorists using roads passing through the region to exercise extreme caution.

Furthermore, members of the public residing close to the Mahaweli River in these areas have been urged to remain highly vigilant and take necessary steps to protect themselves from potential flooding. Disaster management units have also been requested to initiate all required actions.
