Sri Lanka, May 21 -- The ongoing depreciation of the Sri Lankan Rupee against the United States Dollar will likely drive up the cost of multiple imported goods in the coming weeks, according to a warning issued by the Essential Food Importers' Association yesterday. Fluctuations in foreign exchange rates directly hit the procurement expenses of crucial commodities, Essential Food Importers' Association Secretary P. Subramaniam noted during a media briefing. Consumer prices for items including sugar, dhal, and rice face upward adjustments in the near future because of escalating import expenditures.
