Sri Lanka, Nov. 4 -- Liquor prices rose from 1 November due to higher manufacturing costs for empty bottles, according to manufacturing companies.

The price of an empty 750ml bottle rose to Rs. 160, whilst 375ml and 180ml bottles moved to Rs. 140 and Rs. 109 respectively.

Refundable bottle deposits increased alongside these price changes, with the deposit for a 750ml bottle moving from Rs. 60 to Rs. 100, a half bottle from Rs. 40 to Rs. 70, and a 180ml bottle from Rs. 20 to Rs. 30.

Companies that refuse returned bottles passed these additional packaging costs directly to consumers.

A senior Excise Department official stated that companies notified the department of the deposit adjustments, citing elevated production expenses.
