Sri Lanka, Nov. 1 -- Port Police say a lightning strike amid heavy rain caused the fire that broke out at a yard used to park imported vehicles at the Hambantota Port terminal last night (31).

Several vehicles parked at the yard sustained damage in the incident.

The fire reportedly broke out between 8.45 and 9 p.m. as heavy rain and thunderstorms affected the Hambantota area.

Port authorities acted quickly to contain the fire, but several vehicles were damaged.

Hambantota Port Police are conducting further investigations, while the types of vehicles affected and the exact value of the damage remain unknown.
