Legal challenge against Ananda Wijepala's MP seat moves forward
Sri Lanka, June 22 -- An appeal requesting a ruling that Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala is disqualified from holding a parliamentary seat received permission from the Supreme Court today for examination.
The Supreme Court issued this order after considering an appeal petition filed by Renuka Perera, the former administrative secretary of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna.
The appeal petition requested a ruling that Ananda Wijepala is disqualified from holding a parliamentary seat under the Constitution, as he functions as the President's Chief of Staff after being elected as a Member of Parliament.
