Sri Lanka, May 17 -- The leader of the Abhinava Niwahal Peramuna, Amith Weerasinghe, and his personal secretary were arrested in connection with a multi-million rupee financial fraud after allegedly defrauding numerous individuals by claiming that they could invest in a cabana construction project in the Ella and Digana areas, Teldeniya police say.

Police made the arrests following an investigation into complaints lodged by two individuals who invested sums of Rs. 3 million and Rs. 2 million for the cabana project.

Although money was collected for the cabana project, there was no sign of such a project being implemented, police note.
