Lanka Sathosa records Rs. 22 billion accumulated loss; 212 outlets operate at a loss
Sri Lanka, Oct. 11 -- Lanka Sathosa Ltd had accumulated losses of Rs. 22 billion by December 2025, with more than half of its current outlets operating at a loss, Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe told Parliament.
Responding to a question raised by Opposition MP Ravi Karunanayake recently, the Minister said Sathosa owed suppliers Rs. 14 billion as of December 2025, while its stock value stood at only Rs. 5.8 billion.
Samarasinghe said the state-owned retailer had 452 outlets in December last year, of which 250 were loss-making. Following restructuring measures, the number of outlets has fallen to 423, with 212 continuing to operate at a loss.
