Sri Lanka, Nov. 4 -- Construction of the first stages of the Kurunegala-Dambulla Expressway extension and the Southern Expressway extension to Ingiriya will commence in the first week of December 2026, Deputy Minister of Transport and Highways Dr Prasanna Gunasena told Parliament today.

The Kurunegala-Dambulla extension will be launched as the first stage of the project, while work on the Southern Expressway extension to Ingiriya will also begin during the same week. The latter project is planned to extend up to Ratnapura.

Dr Gunasena said both projects would be financed entirely through local funds and carried out by local contractors.
