Sri Lanka, March 3 -- The inaugural World Congress on Snakes (WCS-2026) is set to take place in Kandy from October 1 to 4, according to Dr. Nimal Rathnayake. Speaking at a press conference in Kandy, Dr Rathnayake noted that while international conferences on reptiles and amphibians occur every four years, this marks the first global-level summit dedicated exclusively to snakes.

The event expects to draw approximately 350 world-renowned scholars, researchers, and policymakers. Hosting such a high-profile international gathering outside of Colombo is considered a significant milestone for the hill capital. The congress aims to provide a unified platform for knowledge exchange and international networking among experts in the field.
