Sri Lanka, Aug. 19 -- Germany's Julian Weber secured the world No. 1 spot in the latest World Athletics javelin throw rankings, overtaking Sri Lanka's Rumesh Tharanga.

Weber reached the top ranking based on outstanding performances in recent international competitions.

Sri Lanka's Rumesh Tharanga dropped one position down in the updated classification after previously holding the top spot.

Despite the shift, Tharanga's presence among the world's elite athletes remains a historic landmark for Sri Lankan athletics.

Tharanga retains the opportunity to climb back up the rankings in upcoming international tournaments.
