Sri Lanka, Sept. 13 -- The joint opposition has secured victory in the election held yesterday (12) to select general assembly representatives for the Eppawala Multi-Purpose Co-operative Society, defeating the incumbent National People's Power (NPP).

In the election to select 113 general assembly representatives across 13 regional branches, the joint opposition coalition secured 59 seats, while the group representing the NPP obtained 53 seats.

Polling took place from 9:00 am yesterday.
