Johnston accuses officials of fabricating evidence to target opponents
Sri Lanka, Oct. 1 -- Officials are misusing the law and manufacturing evidence to victimize government critics, according to former minister and Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna head of operations Johnston Fernando.
Speaking near the Fort Magistrate's Court, Fernando expressed trust in the judiciary while pointing out that courts are left powerless when presented with false evidence.
He claimed that a select group of officials execute these measures to advance the administration's political agenda.
Individuals who manage to secure bail are immediately confronted with newly filed cases, he added.
The imprisonment of political opponents is being utilized by the administration as a tactic to generate publicity, Fernando stated.
