Jaffna records highest rainfall
Sri Lanka, May 16 -- The highest rainfall recorded during the past 24 hours ending at 8:30 a.m. today (16) was 90.8 mm, reported from Achchuveli in the Jaffna District.
The Department of Meteorology stated that several areas in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North Western, and Northern provinces, as well as the Galle and Matara districts, may continue to experience fairly heavy rainfall of around 75 mm in some locations.
Meanwhile, the Irrigation Department announced that 20 major reservoirs and 19 medium-scale reservoirs are still overflowing due to the ongoing wet weather conditions.
