Sri Lanka, Sept. 25 -- The inland revenue department announced that citizens aged eighteen and above must submit a valid tax identification number certificate when conducting specific financial and administrative transactions starting november 1st, 2026.

This mandatory requirement applies to activities such as opening bank accounts, obtaining building plan approvals, registering or licensing motor vehicles, registering land titles, registering businesses, transferring company shares, and acquiring credit cards.

Officials across relevant institutions must verify this certificate before processing any of the designated procedures.
