Sri Lanka, June 24 -- Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodharagama ordered today (24) to remand an individual who was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.300,000. The individual was remanded until July 7.

The bribe was to provide a Library Office Assistant position at the Uva Wellassa University.

This order was issued after considering the facts presented by the CIABOC when the suspect was produced before the court.

The individual remanded in custody is a 56-year-old resident of Hali-Ela.

The lawyer appearing for the suspect stated in court that his client had accepted the money as a loan and not as a bribe.
