Indian government informs Supreme Court of no intention to reopen Kachchativu treaties
Sri Lanka, Oct. 7 -- India maintains good diplomatic relations with Sri Lanka and has no intention of reopening the 1974 and 1976 agreements governing Katchatheevu and maritime fishing rights.
The Indian Central Government informed the Supreme Court of this position while a bench heard petitions challenging the arrangements.
Concerns regarding Indian fishermen are being pursued through diplomatic channels, though India cannot compel Sri Lanka to accept or comply with its stance. Attorney General R. Venkataramani made these submissions before a Supreme Court bench comprising Justice Sanjay Kumar and Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva.
