Sri Lanka, May 23 -- The Department of Meteorology has announced that the southwest monsoon is gradually becoming established across the island.

According to the latest weather advisory, several areas are expected to experience intermittent showers or thundershowers today (23), including the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North Western provinces, as well as the Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya districts.

Heavy rainfall of around 100 mm may occur at some locations in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the Galle and Matara districts.

Light rain is also possible in the Anuradhapura district.
