Sri Lanka, June 6 -- The Department of Meteorology has warned that heavy rainfall exceeding 100 millimetres may occur in several parts of the island within the next 12 hours.

According to the department, some areas in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as the districts of Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya, are likely to experience rainfall exceeding 100mm.

The Department of Meteorology has urged the public to remain vigilant regarding possible sudden disasters and landslides that may result from the prevailing rainy weather conditions.

The public has also been advised to take necessary precautions against strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
