Sri Lanka, Sept. 7 -- Steps were taken to issue special licence plates with a green background for all electric vehicles used island-wide.

The Department of Motor Traffic stated this.

These green licence plates issued for electric vehicles are completely valid legally. Commissioner General of Motor Traffic, retired Air Vice Marshal Thushara Fernando, pointed this out.

However, the mechanism of issuing white and yellow licence plates currently used for general vehicles will continue without change, he stated.
