Sri Lanka, Oct. 3 -- Rs. 33,600 million has been allocated for the school nutrition programme for the year 2026, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya announced.

She made this statement while participating in the National School Nutrition Summit 2026 in Colombo yesterday (2).

She stated that over 1.5 million students across 8,990 schools currently benefit from this programme.

The Prime Minister also mentioned that the government aims to transform the school nutrition programme from a mere hunger-relief initiative into a comprehensive strategy that uplifts the nation's health and local economy.
