Government will not raise fuel prices to meet private companies' demands, says Minister
Sri Lanka, Oct. 11 -- Energy Minister Anura Karunathilaka says the Government is not prepared to increase fuel prices at the request of private companies and place additional financial pressure on consumers.
The Minister said fuel suppliers have the option, under their respective agreements, to determine prices based on their own costs and at rates they consider appropriate.
However, he stressed that the Government would not agree to raise fuel prices simply to accommodate the demands of private fuel suppliers at the expense of consumers.
Karunathilaka further warned that the Government would take appropriate action if private companies continued to restrict fuel supplies.
