Sri Lanka, May 20 -- Deputy Finance Minister Anil Jayantha Fernando told Parliament yesterday (19) that Sri Lanka's $2.35 billion in dollar liabilities owed to domestic banks are not deducted from the country's gross official reserves when calculating Net International Reserves (NIR).

He stated that Sri Lanka's gross official reserves (GOR) stood at a provisional $6.8 billion by the end of April 2026.

According to the Central Bank's definition, NIR is calculated by subtracting the Central Bank's liabilities from gross official reserves, including outstanding international currency swaps and liabilities linked to the International Monetary Fund Extended Fund Facility (EFF) programme launched in 2016.
