Sri Lanka, Sept. 25 -- Leader of the House and Minister Bimal Rathnayake has admitted that the proposed 22nd Amendment to the Constitution has created a minor division within society, while claiming that the opposition is exaggerating the situation for political gain.

Addressing a parliamentary debate, Rathnayake stated that the government is fully aware of these differing views and understands the current stance of the division.

Rathnayake criticised opposition politicians for demonising the legislation and fabricating fears that do not exist in the text.
