Sri Lanka, April 9 -- A nationwide strike began today (09) at 8:00 AM, according to the Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA).

The trade union action is being taken to protest the manner in which post-internship medical appointments were announced.

The Ministry of Health and Media announced new workstations yesterday (08) for 436 junior medical officers who applied for post-internship appointments.
