FUTA warns of intensified trade union action over unresolved university issues
Sri Lanka, Oct. 10 -- The Federation of University Teachers' Associations (FUTA) has announced plans to intensify trade union action, citing the failure to provide satisfactory solutions to the ongoing problems and challenges facing Sri Lanka's state university system.
FUTA Media Spokesperson Senior Lecturer Charudatta Ilangasinghe said the issues had been under discussion for the past two years, but no adequate measures had been taken to address them.
He noted that the state university sector was grappling with several serious challenges, warning that the quality of public education was declining significantly due to the departure of highly qualified academic staff and the absence of new recruitments.
