Former UNP municipal councillor remanded for defrauding Rs.160 mn
Sri Lanka, July 19 -- A former United National Party municipal councillor from Horana, arrested by the Police for allegedly defrauding six textile businessmen in Pettah of nearly 160 million rupees, was remanded until July 21 by Wattala Acting Magistrate Meryl Boteju, today (19).
Renuka Damayanthi (49), a resident of Kahathuduwa, Horana and a former United National Party municipal councillor for Horana, was the individual in remand custody.
The suspect has defrauded six textile businessmen by deceiving them and issuing dishonoured cheques, the police said, submitting facts to the court.
She evaded the businessmen and remained in hiding for some time after committing the fraud, according to reports.
