Sri Lanka, Sept. 28 -- Former Sathosa Transport Manager Indika Hemal Ratna Malala faces remand custody until October 07, following an order issued by the Fort Magistrate's Court regarding allegations of financial misappropriation.

The Financial Crimes Investigation Division arrested the suspect and produced him before the court today (28).

Legal proceedings fall under the Offences Against Public Property Act concerning the alleged misappropriation of Rs. 1.9 million from the Cooperative Development Fund, originally allocated for the "Isuru Saviya" ceremony held in 2011 to mark the centenary of cooperative law.

Johnston Fernando served as the Minister of Co-operatives and Internal Trade during the period under investigation.
