Sri Lanka, Sept. 29 -- Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama today ordered the release of Renuka Perera, the former chairman of the National Transport Commission, on two sureties of 5 million rupees each after he had been held on remand over corruption allegations.

The court also issued an order imposing a travel ban on the suspect.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption filed charges accusing the suspect of committing an offense of corruption by issuing 56 bus route permits for operations on the Southern Expressway, deviating from legally stipulated procedures and bypassing the required lump-sum annual fee payments.
