Sri Lanka, Sept. 24 -- Five houses were destroyed after a large May Mara tree fell onto a row of estate houses in the Bohill Estate area of Nawalapitiya last night (23) amidst heavy rainfall.

Three residents who sustained injuries in the incident were admitted to the Nawalapitiya District General Hospital, and one of the injured individuals who was in critical condition was transferred to the Teaching Hospital, Kandy, for further treatment, according to Nawalapitiya Police.

Those injured are a 46-year-old mother, a 13-year-old young daughter, and a 36-year-old woman from a nearby house.

Area residents affected by the incident claim that this tree was in a severely dangerous condition even before it fell.
