Sri Lanka, March 24 -- The government decided to eliminate all additional charges for LankaQR transactions under Rs. 5,000/- to promote digital payments and reduce reliance on physical cash.
Cabinet approval followed a proposal presented by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in his capacity as the Minister of Digital Economy.
This initiative aligns with the 2026 budget proposals, ensuring that neither the sender nor the merchant incurs extra fees for transactions below the Rs. 5,000 threshold.
Data from the third quarter of 2025 indicates that the average LankaQR transaction value already falls below this limit.
