Farmers demand immediate opening of government paddy stores
Sri Lanka, July 4 -- Farmers demand that authorities open government paddy storage facilities immediately to begin purchasing their harvest.
They also call for a fair price to be set for their grain.
Although the Ministry of Trade recently announced a guaranteed price for Yala season paddy, farmers state that this amount remains insufficient.
Farmers allege that the government warehouse located in the Hingurana Paranigama area remains closed.
Conversely, representatives from the Anuradhapura Thirappane Farmers' Association argue that if the government opens these stores and starts buying paddy now, farmers will not have the opportunity to sell their harvest properly by the time it is ready for collection.
