Sri Lanka, May 25 -- Four individuals accused of scamming visually-impaired people by promising low-cost eyeglasses were taken into custody by the Kotagala Medical Officer of Health after operating a fake eye clinic in Talawakele.

The suspects had allegedly been running an unauthorised vision clinic in Talawakele town, and had collected advance payments from patients under the pretext of preparing prescription glasses at concessionary prices.

Commenting on the incident, S. Devan, Administrative Public Health Inspector at the Kotagala MOH office, said investigations confirmed that the suspects had no qualifications or valid licences to conduct eye examinations or provide lenses.
