Sri Lanka, July 6 -- The driver who transported the shooters in the Akuregoda murder of a lawyer and his wife, confessed following his return from the Maldives.

The Western Province South Crime Division obtained a 90-day detention order for the suspect.

The lawyer and his wife were shot dead in front of a supermarket in Akuregoda on February 13.

The shooters fled in a car driven by the suspect, who was apprehended in the Maldives by a special Sri Lankan police team.

Maldivian immigration officials alerted Sri Lankan investigators when the suspect, who was subject to an Interpol Red Notice, arrived in the Maldives from Bahrain.
