Sri Lanka, July 20 -- Train operations from Nawalapitiya to Kandy will be able to resume before the end of this year after the reconstruction of the Nawalapitiya to Gampola section of the Upcountry railway line damaged by the Ditwah cyclone, Kandy District Member of Parliament Thushari Jayasinghe said.

The MP stated this after inspecting the commencement of repair work on the damaged railway line near the Thembiligala-Warakapitiya railway station.

The railway line is damageed at 36 locations between Nawalapitiya and Gampola, and work at 30 of those locations is already completed by the work unit of the Department of Railways.
