Sri Lanka, Feb. 28 -- A husband and wife sustained serious injuries after their motorcycle plummeted off a bridge in the Dasayahamara area on the Polonnaruwa-Colombo main road.

The incident occurred around 10:50 AM today (28) as the couple, residents of Muslim Colony in Kaduruwela, travelled to visit a patient at the Habarana Hospital.

Minneriya Police reported that the motorcycle lost control while crossing the bridge over the Thimbiri Canal, which carries spill water from the Giritale Tank.

The vehicle fell approximately 20 feet into the canal below.

Local residents and passersby acted immediately to rescue the pair from the water.
