Sri Lanka, Sept. 10 -- A fine of Rs. 200,000 was ordered against a private company after it pleaded guilty in a case filed by the Consumer Affairs Authority over selling an expired tea packet to a consumer.

Colombo Additional Magistrate Darshima Premaratne issued the order following submissions made to the court by investigation officers of the Consumer Affairs Authority.

A 400g tea packet stating an expiry date of 15.07.2026 was sold for Rs. 1,000 , investigation officers of the Consumer Affairs Authority stated.

Legal action was taken by the Consumer Affairs Authority over the violation of Direction No. 52 published in Extraordinary Gazette No. 1875/38 dated 15.08.2014 regarding this incident.
