Compensation payments for drought-damaged crops begin today
Sri Lanka, Sept. 4 -- The Agricultural and Agrarian Insurance Board has announced that the disbursement of compensation for farmlands damaged by severe dry weather across several districts will commence today.
Arrangements have been made to credit insurance payments directly to the bank accounts of affected farmers in the Polonnaruwa District today, while compensation for farmers in all other affected districts will be paid before the 15th of this month.
The prevailing dry weather conditions have caused damage to paddy, maize, and other crops in the Hambantota, Ampara, Puttalam, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, and Monaragala districts.
