Sri Lanka, Aug. 21 -- Compensation and tributes were presented today (21) at the Prisons Headquarters auditorium to the relatives and children of prison officers who lost their lives in the line of duty due to the emergency situation at the Negombo prison.

The payments were disbursed under the accident and death compensation benefits of the Agrahara Insurance Scheme administered by the National Insurance Trust Fund. Each deceased officer's family received compensation of 2 million rupees.

Prisons Commissioner Prasad Hemantha, National Insurance Trust Fund Chief Executive Officer Yushan Tharanga, and other officials participated in the event.
