Sri Lanka, March 9 -- 25 electricity trade unions commenced a strike today (09) to protest several issues, including the failure to issue formal appointment letters to employees assigned to new companies established following the restructuring of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).
Uncertainty regarding employee rights and job security within the new reform process serves as the primary driver for this industrial action. Unions report that authorities have failed to provide a proper response to grievances concerning the formalisation of appointment letters and general working conditions.
