Cardinal urges fishing community to assist in fight against drug trafficking
Sri Lanka, Sept. 6 -- The Archbishop of Colombo, His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, has appealed to the fishing community to support efforts in combating Sri Lanka's growing narcotics crisis and refrain from allowing fishing vessels to be used for drug trafficking.
Speaking today (06) at an event held at St Lazarus Church in Bandarawatta, Beruwala, the Cardinal expressed regret that a significant volume of drugs entering the country continues to be smuggled by sea using boats.
He warned that drug addiction is inflicting a devastating impact on the nation's youth, destroying lives and causing profound hardship for their families.
